The Maritime Museum is the main holding of Sweden’s National Maritime Museum which also includes The Naval Museum and the Vasa Museum. It is an incredibly interesting museum which encompasses a rich and vast history of Sweden’s merchant shipping, ship-building and ties to other Baltic states.

It also includes an awesome play room for kids called Lekrummet Saltkråken. Best of all, it’s free. As part of the recent move to make many of Stockholm’s museums and science centres more open, access to the Marine Museum (Sjöhistoriska Museet) was made free to members of the public.

The play room has been designed for kids between the age of 0-8 years old. Under parental supervision, kids can captain the ship Ljusterö and sail the lumber sloop Josefina. There are changing facilities in the toilets and a brilliant picnic room, café and a quiet room for feeding.

The museum has car parking and is accessible by public transport by bus number 69 from T-Centralen towards Djurgården.
