Today marks the start of Lent with Fettisdag, i.e. Shrove Tuesday or Fat Tuesday. NOM NOM NOM!!
In Sweden, this is marked by the mass production of Semla buns or Semlor (pl). These sweet buns are stuffed with sweet cream and layered with almond paste. YAH!! That’s it, Mr Sweet-tooth, another amazing fika thing from Sweden!
So, it’s basically the Swedish version of pancakes, but WAAAAAAAAAAAY BETTER. In the good ole days Swedes would eat these after they had been soaked in warm milk…hmmm not so good.
