There is one thing for sure, this taste for late 70’s, early 80’s vintage sport isn’t going anywhere fast. Think Venice beach, circa 1979. This trend is packed with palm tree prints, ocean themes and tropical hues. Palm springs comes to mind.
Even the fabrics being used a reminiscent of 80’s Americana. Velour, towelling, seersucker and cheese cloth linen are all featuring in most SS18 collections. My personal favourite is the come back of the toweling, short shorts with pipe edging and string ties combined with knee high socks.
But, a twist in this vintage tale is for the girls. Collections are branching out and adding sporty pinafore dresses, tunic style dresses in block colours, a-line skirts and neat blouses. Not quite prim, but certainly preppy.
Colours to watch out for are minty greens, turquoise and salmon pinks. Ocean blues and natural linens with burnt ochre and orangey reds.
