CHristmas Markets
Nov - Dec 2017

Littlebearabroad’s top 10 ‘Christmas markets of 2017’. We’ve got it all, from Old Town and royalty to secret gardens and student art. It’s a brilliant time of year to see some of the best locally produced and hand made products in Sweden. A must do for all Christmas junkies.

1

ROSENDALS TRÄDGÅRD

This is our favourite Christmas market and it only lasts for 1 evening!

The Winter bar next to the big greenhouse is opened. Pizzas are baked in the wood oven and the kitchen lights the grill. Waffles are creamed, hot glögg and warm applemus from this year’s harvest. In the greenhouse, Christmas has moved in with Christmas pastries in the garden café and Christmas flowers in the glass house.

It’s an evening of bonfires, beautiful lights, gorgeous smells.

More info is coming but the evening takes place on the 23rd November between 17 – 20

SKANSEN

Skansen’s  Christmas market is meant to be the longest running Christmas market in Stockholm. The market takes place in Bollnästorget inside the animal park. It holds many stalls containing traditional Swedish workmanship, homeware, decorations and Christmas goods. There is also a food market that runs alongside it.

For more information go to: skansen.se

Starting on 25th Nov and running every Sat & Sun until 17th December.

ZETAS CHRISTMAS MARKET

A traditional Christmas market at the beautiful Zetas Trädgard. You can pick up everything from Christmas decorations, home-made food goodies, wreaths and handmade winter gloves, booties and sheepskin rugs.

Zeta’s Trädgårdcafe is also truly maginificent and the food is delicious. Very worth your while.

Sat 25th and 26th November, 10am, Zetas Trädgård

Designmarknad Sthlm - Julmarknad

Our favourite year-round design market is returning with its annual Christmas market at Färg Fabriken.

Young designers, new product developers and beautiful artisanal produce.

Takes place on the weekend of the 9th – 10th December. Follow Littlebearabroad events for more information.

5

Täby Julmarknad

Täby’s Julmarknad theme this year is Eko-Reko-Retro Christmas.

We love this market because it has a bit of everything! And, because it’s slightly outside of Stockholm it’s never as busy as some of the more popular Christmas events. There’s not just stalls of produce but also events and activities for kids and grown ups. Log throwing, Jul pyssel etc.

This year the market is working in cooperation with LoveKitchen restaurant and will focus more on food and drinks.

For more details, see the Littlebearabroad event calendar for dates and times.

6

Gamla Stan

Gamla Stan is the classic tourist Christmas market in Stortorget. It is beautifully decorated and lit, just like something out of a fairy tale. The market’s surrounding historical setting gives it a sense of historical importance. But, to be honest, there are so many other more interesting  and diverse markets to visit, but the setting of this one is what makes it worth a visit.

It opens on 2nd December and closes on the 23rd December.

7

Drottningholms Palace

On the second weekend of Advent, Drottningholmslott opens its gates to their annual Christmas market. Organised in association with Svenska Slottsmässor, who specialise in markets with hand made, historical artefacts.

Again, it’s the setting of this market that makes it so special. Right on the mouth of the Mälaren and next to the royal gardens. It’s a beautiful place for a Christmas market.

Drottningholmslott will also be open throughout the Christmas market with activities and games for the kids.

You can read all about it via the Svenska Slottsmässor website.

8

Konstfacks Julmarknad

The Stockholm Art College is hosting its own Julmarknad on the 2nd and 3rd of December.

This is a fantastic market to pick up totally unique and brand new pieces, see some of the designers and artists of the future exhibiting for the first time.

There is a small fee of 20sek for entry and fika is included. For more information you can find out about the exhibitors on the Konstfack website.

9

Sigtuna's Christmas Market

Have you ever been to Sigtuna? It’s beautiful and at Christmas it lights up with seasonal festivities and beautiful sounds. This year the Christmas market starts out on the 26/11, 3/12, 10/12 and 17/12 at 11 – 16. The market is full of traditional Swedish food, drink and gifts.

Here at the Royal Stables an offering of plenty of Swedish Christmas tradition takes place the over three days.
