The Kite Festival is a folk festival, open to all. The event promotes togetherness, play, joy, creativity and meetings across generations and national borders.

Take your own picnic or buy something good there. Meet musicians, poets and street musicians in the grass. Performing on stage among children from Stockholm’s Chinese school.

In our dragonbuilding workshop on site you will be able to build simple child-friendly sled dragons as guaranteed flyers and more advanced Afghan dragons in silk paper. Chinese dragons can also be purchased on site.

Traditionally, the party is opened in the Dragon Tower – a pandang to the Kaknestorn Tower.

Inauguration at. 13:00

The Dragon Festival 2018 opens with figures by Pernilla Stålhammar (Riksdag’s member), David Liu (Stockholm’s Chinese Association) and Gui Cong You (China Ambassador), then Benedictio Carling and DrakUlla spread poetry of Ten Lung for the Wind from the Dragon Tower. Performances on stage continue, see program estimate on-site.

The Chinese giant rises at about 13.40

Do not miss this year’s event – a spectacular Chinese giant terror that will lift from Gärdet. The dragon is newly created in China specially designed for the Dragon Festival at Gården 2018.

Kitefighting at 14.30

Show of Kitefighting with Afghan dragonflies. In Asian countries like Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, kite fighting is a very popular sport. The competition is about taking down his opponent’s dragon.

Award ceremony at 15.30

In place corals during the day; Best Artistic Dragon, Best Technical Dragon, Children’s Prize, Best Initiative and the Kitefighting winner. All winners get diplomas, trophies and dragons designed and handmade by Benedictio Carling. The winners are also included in the drawing of two air tickets to Shanghai. Judge of the Dragon Festival at Gjerden 2018 is Chenxiong (China’s certified dragon judge), Dou Chun Xiang (China’s education attache), Benedictio Carling, DrakUlla, Birgitta Adolfsson, Antonie Grahamsdaughter and Martin Skoog (Flying Kites for Peace).
