The book is set around the lives of three Black women in Stockholm who become intertwined in an unexpected way through a wealth white man. It’s a story that touches on classism, the fetishisation of Black women and tokenism. Lọlá’s writing engages all of your emotional range and you can feel the air of the spaces she is creating as you read. It is a vibrant and powerful first novel. This story and Lọlá’s insight into the African diaspora in Sweden is a powerful reminder of everything we don’t know about being a Black woman in Sweden.
